MASSAGE - BENEFITS AND ETIQUETTE

THE HEALING POWER OF TOUCH

A conscious touch assists in balancing physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. The body is physically restricted when emotions are bound up inside. As a response to day to day stress our shoulders tighten, facial muscles tense, often we spend enormous energy trying to hold back the tears. When we release the physical tension from our bodies, we also release emotions.  When the tension is released, the body becomes  freer and more adaptive to circles of life.

During the massage I put my attention to meet your point of resistance - the place that holds the most tension - with the same amount of energy. Massage helps to release frozen tension and makes it possible to live in a body that can move in response to being moved.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR THE MASSAGE

Massage is  a beautiful, relaxing experience and should be treated as a gift to yourself. It is wonderful, if you can slow down already before a massage session. In an ideal life, you would have time to do something that soothes your soul - yoga, meditation, baking or  reading a nice book. But don’t worry if none of these are possible and even to carve out the time for a massage took a bit of planning and rearranging of schedule for you. I totally get you and will do my best to make this time as relaxing and soothing as possible for you.

Try to avoid alcohol and ideally take a shower before the appointment.

DURING THE SESSION

Before the session we are going to have a small chat for me to understand your concerns and needs.  I will confirm with you if you would like me to incorporate short meditation, sounds of tibetian singing bowls and aromatherapy oils  for a deeper relaxation.

During the massage I will  ask if the  pressure feels good, making sure you feel comfortable and can relax during the massage.

Avoid talking or texting on the phone or watching movies during the session (yes, I have had clients who do that!) Take this precious time for yourself - you do deserve it. The world with all its “to do list” will still be there one hour later and you will be able to meet it with much more clarity and ease.

WHAT IS “OKEY” PRESSURE?

Okey, let’s debunk the myth that Deep Tissue massage means pain.  It does not. During the deep tissue massage we work on deeper layers of muscles - you should feel some pressure, but not pain. I know, many people find pain pleasurable and that is totally fine. Feel free to request your therapist if you want more pressure. But if sensation (“pain”) is more than 7 out of 10 - it is probably too much. During the massage you should be able to breathe deeply and fully and allow your body to melt under the hands of  a therapist. As a therapist, I will notice if you start holding the breath and tensing and I will reduce the pressure until your body softens and allows me to go deeper.

SELF CARE AFTER THE MASSAGE

Very important is to stay hydrated after the massage. Double your water intake and avoid caffeine and alcohol. Water will help to eliminate toxins that we worked out of your muscles into circulation and will reduce the chance to feel sore the day after.

It is better  if you don't schedule business meetings or training straight after the massage sessions, but instead take a time to  slow down even more, maybe treat yourself with a nice bath or good movie  or a book. It is normal to feel tired and sleepy after a massage. So, having a nap is a good idea. :)

MASSAGE & EMOTIONS

As I already mentioned above - massage can bring up various emotions on the surface. If you find yourself extra irritated for no particular reason after the massage, know that it is okey to feel that way. Simply allow these feelings to flow through you without getting attached to the source where they are coming from.  Meditation, journaling, EFT (tapping) and Yoga Nidra may help to navigate through these difficult emotions. Please, never hesitate to reach out to me, I am here to assist you on your journey.
